Members of Youth Parliament demand end to Dump and Kill Policy in Balochistan

Islamabad, August 31; Mr. Rafiullah Kakar (YP06- BALOCHISTAN05), Mr. Inam Ullah Marwat (YP14-KP04), Mr. Mateeullah Tareen (YP04-BALOCHISTAN03) and Mr. Hazrat Wali Kakar (YP02-BALOCHISTAN01) moved a resolution in the house condemning the "Dump and Kill" policy by the military establishment in Balochistan. The resolution further stated that incase the establishment persists with such strategies; it is likely to accentuate further crisis of National integration.

The fourth day of the fourth session of Youth Parliament Pakistan began with a calling attention Notice moved by Ms. Momna Naeem (YP31-PUNJAB14) directing the attention of the House towards the importance of Kalabagh Dam and its adverse impact on the flood affected regions.

An important contribution was made by the newly inducted Ms. Hira Mumtaz (YP41-PUNJAB24) who proposed that there should be a 3D Policy consisting of Development, Dialogue and Deterrence, the aim of which would be to resolve not only the menace of extremism but other issues that the province is engulfed in. This resolution was unanimously accepted.

Mr. Junaid Ashraf (YP01-AJK01), Ms. Sarwat Malik (YP10-ICT02), Ms. Bushra Iqbal Rao (YP60-SINDH12), Mr. Hasham Malik (YP09-ICT01), and Mr. Muhammad Faizan Idrees (YP36-PUNJAB19) moved a resolution in the House stating that the Indus Water Treaty is the most successful confidence building measures between India and Pakistan and there is dire need to make treaty more transparent by using state of the art, satellite based real-time telemetry system in Azad Jammu Kashmir and Indian Held Kashmir for timely and improved water management. The resolution was adopted unanimously.

Ms. Sitwat Waqar (YP12-KP02) Youth Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence moved a resolution in the House, demanding that the Federal Government of Pakistan should refrain from renewing the moratorium on death penalty despite pressures from human rights organizations or the Taliban and immediately execute every one of the 7000 convicts on death row. Where Ms. Hira Mumtaz (YP41-PUNJAB24) was of the view that even though there are no direct links between prison breaks in Pakistan and Iraq, but the groups are most definitely taking encouragement of each other, and in case the right action is not taken to curb such incidents, more of such incidents are likely to take place in the future. Mr. Asadullah Chatta (YP38-PUNJAB21), the Youth Minister for Law put forward the opinion that the issues should be referred to the High Court instead of the Magistrate.

The 5th Youth Parliament Pakistan is supported by the Danish International Development Agency, Government of Denmark as recognition of the importance of young people's involvement in democracy and democratic practices.
