Engr. Khurram Dastgir Khan

MNA (NA-96, Gujranwala-II, Punjab, PML-N), Minister of State for Privatization, Commerce andTextile Industry, addressed the 5th Youth Parliament Pakistan on the 'Economic Challenges Faced by Newly Elected Government' on Spetember 21, 2013

 
 

Khurram Dastgir Khan was trained as an engineer at California Institute of Technology and also holds a degree in Economics from Bowdoin College, both in the United States. He is a life member of Pakistan Engineering Council. Affiliated with Pakistan Muslim League-N, Khurram Dastgir Khan is currently Central Deputy Secretary Information and during 2006-11 held the office of Central Joint Secretary of the Party. Khurram Dastgir Khan was serving as Special Assistant to Prime Minister at the time of the military coup d'etat in October 1999 and led resistance in Gujranwala to authoritarian rule. He was elected to the National Assembly in 2008 and re-elected in 2013. During the 2008-13 Parliament, Khurram Dastgir Khan earned distinction as Chair of the Standing Committee on Commerce and as a member of the Public Accounts Committee. He also served on the Special Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir, Finance Committee of the National Assembly, Special Committee on Threats to Journalists, and the Standing Committee on National Regulation & Services as well the Standing Committee on Millennium Development Goals. Khurram Dastgir Khan was Pakistan co-Chair of the Pakistan-India Parliamentary Dialogue held in New Delhi in August 2012 and also participated in three previous Indo-Pak Parliamentary Dialogues held in 2011-12. He has travelled to Brussels and Washington, DC to visit NATO and observe national security strategy formation. He has also represented PML-N leadership at the Commonwealth. On 7 June 2013, Engr. Khurram Dastgir Khan took oath of office as Minister of State and is currently Chairman of the Privatisation Commission/Minister of State for Privatisation. The Honorable Prime Minister on 15 July 2013 assigned to Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan additional responsibility of the Parliamentary Business of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the absence abroad of adviser to Prime Minister on National Security & Foreign Affairs. The Honorable Prime Minister on 6 September 2013 assigned to Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan additional responsibility of Minister of State for Commerce and Textile Industry.

 
     
 

Mr. Murad Saeed

MNA, (NA-29 Swat-I, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PTI), addressed the 5th Youth Parliament Pakistan on the 'Role of Youth in Politics' on Spetember 20, 2013

 
 

Mr. Murad Saeed born on October, 17, 1986 in Kabbal town of district Swat. He elected as Member of National Assembly Pakistan in General Election 2013 from his native constituency NA-29, Swat-I, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He is being the youngest parliamentarian in Pakistan's history. He graduated from University of Peshawar in Environmental Sciences. Previously, Mr. Murad elected as the founder President of Insaf Students Federation (ISF) in the University of Peshawar, he also served as a Provincial President for the ISF Khyber Pakhtunkhwa till 2010.

 
     
 

Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyar

Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyar was born on April 10, 1941 in Lahore. He graduated in Economics in 1961 from Delhi University standing first in the University and went on to do his Tripos in Economics at Cambridge University, and, in the Oxbridge tradition, was later awarded a M.A degree. He was subsequently elected as an Honorary Fellow of Trinity Hall, Cambridge, an honour he shares with Khwaja Nazimuddin, the second Governor General of Pakistan. He joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in 1963 and after serving in Brussels, Hanoi and Baghdad, was posted as India's first Consul General in Karachi (December 1978 to January 1982). During his last five years in the IFS, he served on deputation as Joint Secretary to Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. He took voluntary retirement from the IFS in 1989 to pursue an alternative career in politics and the media. He served as an elected member from Tamil Nadu in the 10th, 13th and 14th Lok Sabha and held different portfolios as the Union Minister of Panchayati Raj, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, and Union Minister for the Development of North-Eastern Region. The President of India conferred on him the "Outstanding Parliamentarian" award for 2006. In March 2010, he was nominated to Rajya Sabha and is currently a member of the National Social Security Board for Unorganised Workers; Member of Consultative Committee for the Ministry of External Affairs from December 2011; Member of Parliamentary Forum on Disaster Management Standing Committee on Rural Development. He is the Founder President of the Society for Secularism and Chairman of the Indian Chapter of the South Asia Foundation. He authored and edited several books and writes for different newspaper and magazines; both in India and abroad.

 
     
 

Mr. Tariq Junaid

Executive Director Institute for Public Opinion Research (IPOR) addressed the 5th Youth Parliament Pakistan on the 'Public Opinion Polls in Pakistan' on Spetember 18, 2013

 
 

Mr. Tariq Junaid, with his two decades of experience of working in different governmental, non-governmental and international research institutions, formed the Institute for Public Opinion Research (IPOR) in 2011 following the award of a sub-grant from the International Republican Institute. Within the short span, IPOR developed a diverse clients-base of local and international organizations like USAID, IRI, NDI, Pechter polls, Maven, George Mason University, Pakistan Microfinance Network (PMN), Devolution Trust for Community Empowerment, (DTCE) and Governance Institute Network International (GINI). Tariq Junaid has also worked in International Republican Institute (IRI) as program manager (2005- 2010). Prior to joining IRI that, he worked in World Vision International for a $14 million USAID funded Legislative Support Project as Senior Program Officer (2003-2005). As part of team in IRI, he has successfully helped established a dedicated team for conducting opinion polls in all over Pakistan which are widely respected by all political parties, media and all other stakeholders. Junaid holds master degrees in Mass Communications (1991) and Development Studies (1997) from Institute of Social Studies (ISS), The Netherlands and completed an Executive Education Certificate in "Strategic Management of Non-governmental Organizations" from John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, USA.

 
     
 

Dr. Muhammad Shoaib Suddle

Criminal Justice and Terrorism Expert, Public Policy Analyst, addressed the 5th Youth Parliament on Pakistan the 'How Can a State Deal with Terrorism' on September 01, 2013

 
 

Dr. Shoaib Suddle is regarded as a leading police and justice sector reform specialist in South Asia. Dr. Suddle's most recent assignment was the Federal Tax Ombudsman of Pakistan. Before this, he headed the Intelligence Bureau (Pakistan's premiere civilian intelligence agency), following his stint as Inspector General Police, Sindh. He has an M.Sc. (Econ.) in criminology and a PhD in white-collar crime from Cardiff University (Wales, UK), M.Sc. (Physics) from Government College Lahore, and an LLB from the University of the Punjab. His role in controlling urban terrorism in Karachi in mid 1990s and difficult law and order situation in Balochistan (2001-04) earned him wide acclaim, both nationally and internationally. In recognition of his exceptional contribution, he was decorated with the top gallantry award of Hilal-e-Shujaat in 1996 and top civil award of Hilal-e-Imtiaz in 2008.

 
     
 

Air Marshal (R) Masood Akhtar

Air Marshal (R) Masood Akhtar has been a Fighter Pilot for over 33 years. He has been Commandant Air War College and Chief Instructor at the National Defence Course at (NDU). He retired from the Pakistan Air Force as a Three-Star General in 2005. With a Masters in War Studies, he is a graduate of the Turkish Air War College and Armed Forces War Course at the NDU. Mr. Masood has a specific and special Personal Mission Statement in writing: "Individual, family, national and global security through i ntellect, beliefs and empowerment." His core competencies include teaching and practicing Psychology of Winning, National Security Policy and Public Policies. He also has developed the competency to evolve Corporate Vision, Cognitive Education Systems, Modern Military Training Systems and Air Power and similar Doctrines.The Air Marshal has also been a Distinguished Faculty Member (DFM) at the National Defence University (NDU) during 2012-13. He is currently Chairman Kashmir Education Foundation (KEF), an NGO that excels in providing thinking education to help secure Pakistan. KEF targets the youth from under-privileged, rural areas with a special focus on female education.

 
     
 

Dr. Ijaz Shafi Gilani

Chairman, Gallup, Pakistan, addressed the 5th Youth Parliament on Pakistan the 'Youth Democracy Assessment' on April 24, 2013

 
 

Dr. Ijaz Shafi Gilani is the Chairman and Chief Executive of the Gallup Pakistan. He has a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. He has also served as Adviser to Prime Minister and Chairman of the Prime Minister's Committee for Research and Analysis from 1991-1993. Dr. Gilani has directed electoral studies for all local bodies and national elections since 1979.

 
       
 

Mr. Faisal Karim Kundi, MNA
Deputy Speaker National Assembly of Pakistan, Patron Youth Parliament and Member Youth Parliament Steering Committee addressed the members of the 5th Youth Parliament Pakistan at the Inaugural Session on February 28, 2013

 
 

Mr. Faisal Karim Kundi was elected to the 13th National Assembly of Pakistan in the February 2008 General Election on a PPPP ticket. He was subsequently elected as the 17th Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan on March 19, 2008. As a young, first-time elected MNA at the age of 33, Kundi also has the distinction of being the youngest Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan. He serves as the Patron of the Young Parliamentarians Forum (YPF), a multi-party group of young Parliamentarians. He is also the Patron of the Youth Parliament Pakistan, a PILDAT initiative. Born on May 24, 1975 in Dera Ismail Khan, Mr. Kundi graduated with LLB in 2002 from Thames Valley College, UK. Kundi began his political career in 2003 and has served as the Divisional Coordinator of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for Dera Ismail Khan.

 
       
 

Mr. Nadeem Azal Gondal, MNA

Mr. Nadeem Afzal Gondal was born on April 01, 1975 at Gujrat, Punjab. Mr. Gondal started his political career when he was elected as Tehsil Nazim, Malakwal, District Mandi Bahauddin, Punjab. Politically affiliated with Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarian (PPPP), Mr. Gondal was elected as Member National Assembly of Pakistan in General Election 2008. Currently he is Chairman of the National Assembly Public Accounts Committee.

 
       
 

Mr. Ghazi Salahuddin
Senior Analyst, addressed the 5th Youth Parliament Pakistan on the 'Youth Democracy Assessment' on February 28, 2013

 
 

Ghazi Salahuddin is a respected Senior Analyst who has been associated with The News International and Geo Television for the past several years. He was President of the Karachi Press Club in 2006. He was a presenter of the television quiz show Kasauti Master Mind during the 1990s. Ghazi Salahuddin is an intellectual, English writer, Columnist and media expert from Pakistan. He teamed up with Obaidullah Baig and won renown for the famous Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) quiz show of the 1990s, Kasouti, He is also an anchorman of Program "Kitaab" on Geo Tv. He writes for The News International and is engaged in many social activities.

 
       
 

Dr. Shamsher Khan
Coordinator High-Risk Districts, UNICEF, Pakistan addressed the members of the 5th Youth Parliament Pakistan on the 'Importance of Understanding and Support of Youth on the Challenges of Polio Eradication in Pakistan' on February 27, 2013

 
 

Dr. Shamsher Khan, Public Health Specialist, working with UNICEF, Pakistan since October 2011 as Coordinator for the High-Risk Districts, focusing on all the priority under served, Migrant and Mobile Polpulation, which pose a continuous threat to the spread of Polio virus from one place to another. Dr. Shamsher has worked for almost 12 years with WHO on both national and international positions, he served as Senior Surveillance Officer for KP and FATA (1999 - 2003) and was later assigned the responsibility as Team Leader in South Eastern region of Afghanistan (2003 - 2009) and later as WHO Medical Officer for 2 years in Nigeria (2010 - Oct 2011).

 
       
 

Mr. Ahmed Bilal Mehboob

The founder President of PILDAT, Mr. Ahmed Bilal Mehboob has over 25 years’ experience in senior management and advisory positions and over 10 years experience in design, planning and implementation of legislative strengthening projects involving national and provincial legislatures. His major area of work has been in the forefront of strengthening democracy and democratic institutions and providing thorough leadership on crucial issues that affect democracy, governance and political growth in the country. Mr. Mehboob has carved and spearheaded a non partisan political research initiative from the platform of PILDAT, an independent, non-partisan think tank of Pakistan. He is respected widely as an analyst on political, governance-related and legislative issues. Mr. Mehboob holds a B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Engineering & Technology Lahore, Pakistan. As an engineer, he has served outside Pakistan in the Middle East and USA. As a student activist, Mr. Mehboob was elected as President, Engineering University Students Union from 1971-1972 and also served as Chairman, Lahore Students Council in 1972.
